Sean and Sara Alsobrooks, followed God's leading to move to Downtown Knoxville from Southern California in early 2007. With no prior church planting or ministry experience they left behind friends, family, movies stars and sunny weather to start Knoxlife.
Knoxlife was born out of a desire to show the "unlovable" that God is madly in love with them. To show the "worthless" that they are invaluable. To spread little glimpses of the Kingdom of God all over our city. We call this being "Missional", because we believe we are sent on "mission" by Jesus.
From the very beginning, our desire and vision is to be a people that make a difference in our city. We want to find, and help others find God's beautiful city. We want to show Jesus as he really is, without our manmade judgments, frailties, weaknesses, fear and inadequacies.
God loves people. Period.
As his church we desire to love people simply because they exist. Our desire is to show all people the unconditional love and grace of Jesus without any reservations because of their lifestyle or religious background.
This love has no agenda behind it (I Cor. 13:5). This grace sets no timeline on personal change or standards for spiritual growth (Romans 4:4-5).
Love Purely
The idea is to be a part of peoples lives because we truly care for them rather than to fulfill a religious duty; to walk together through life with them through all our struggles... to be people of love, joy, kindness, and truth.
We seek to live out the dangerous stories of Jesus. We must take the Gospel story seriously and allow it to define us. Just as Jesus was sent into our world, we too are sent to be the God flavors and God colors in our city. We should go to the places Jesus would go and be with the people Jesus would be with. It's not about us. It's time we stop acting like it.
